在常用詞asocial和anonynous 中含有一對(duì)希臘語(yǔ)源的否定前綴a-和an-，其意思相當(dāng)于not,without或者lacking。它們一般加在希臘語(yǔ)源的形容詞或名詞之前，構(gòu)成對(duì)應(yīng)的反義詞。其中，an-用于元音或原先不讀音的h之前，a-用于其他情況a-(an-)也可以出現(xiàn)在希臘詞根前，構(gòu)成的原生派生詞往往是較早引入英語(yǔ)的希臘詞。

先來(lái)認(rèn)識(shí)幾個(gè)由an-與形容詞構(gòu)成的派生詞。

1.anonymous [an-(a-) = 無(wú)；onymous adj.有名字的→]
adj.無(wú)名的，匿名的
舉例：He received an anonymous letter today.他今天收到一封匿名信。

2.anechoic [an-(a-) = not 無(wú)；echoic adj.回聲的→]
adj.無(wú)回聲的
舉例：The recording was made in an anechoic chamber. 這錄音是在隔音室做出來(lái)的。

3.anharmonic [an-(a-) = not 不；harmonic adj.和諧的→]
adj.[物]非諧的
舉例：That is a kind of anharmoic force. 那是一種非諧力。

a-出現(xiàn)在輔音字母與讀音的h之前。常見的有：

1.asocial [a- = not 不；social adj.愛交際的→]
adj.不合群的
舉例： He is asocial and suspicious of others. 此人不合群，疑心又重。

2.aperiodic [a- = not 非；periodic adj.周期性的→]
adj.非周期性的；不定期的
舉例： The object is in an aperiodic motion. 該物體正處于非周期性運(yùn)動(dòng)之中。

3.asexual [a- = not 無(wú)；sexual adj.性別的→]
adj.無(wú)性別的

4.ahistorical [a- = not 無(wú)；historical adj.有關(guān)歷史的→]
adj.與歷史無(wú)關(guān)的

最后，我們來(lái)學(xué)習(xí)幾個(gè)由a- (an-) 構(gòu)成的原生詞。

1.anarchy [an-(a-) = without 無(wú)；archy = leadership 領(lǐng)導(dǎo)，治理→“無(wú)領(lǐng)導(dǎo)狀態(tài)”→]

舉例：After its defeat in the war the coutry was in a state of anarchy. 戰(zhàn)敗之后，該國(guó)陷于無(wú)政府狀態(tài)。

2.apathy [a- = without 無(wú)；pathy = the state of feeling 感情狀態(tài)→“無(wú)感情狀態(tài)”→]
