1200年左右進(jìn)入英語(yǔ)，直接源自古法語(yǔ)的ariver，意為來(lái)到陸地；最初源自拉丁語(yǔ)的adripam：ad (去) + ripa (岸上），意為到達(dá)岸上。

arrive的基本意思是“到達(dá)”,可用于具體地點(diǎn),也可以用于指抽象事物,還可表示“(時(shí)間)到來(lái)”。arrive引申可表示“新鮮事物的出現(xiàn)”“人在事業(yè)等方面取得成功”等。
arrive用作不及物動(dòng)詞時(shí),常可與介詞at〔in, on〕連用。arrive at表示“到達(dá)某地點(diǎn)”時(shí),往往指到達(dá)較小的地點(diǎn); arrive in表示“到達(dá)的區(qū)域”時(shí),往往指較大的地方; arrive on則表示“到達(dá)某現(xiàn)場(chǎng)”。
arrive可與表示地點(diǎn)和時(shí)間的副詞連用,但是不能與表示意圖或程度的副詞連用。
arrive的過(guò)去分詞可用作形容詞,表示“已到達(dá)的”。
arrived，arrive的過(guò)去分詞，做形容詞時(shí)，指“已到的”，如the newly arrived traveller（新到的旅游者）?，F(xiàn)在不習(xí)慣說(shuō)be arrived，如is arrived和are arrived；
回到家用arrive home，不用arrive at home，因里面的home是副詞；
arrive(d)是一時(shí)的，短暫的動(dòng)作，不能用完成時(shí)態(tài)，不能說(shuō)He has arrived for a week去讓這個(gè)動(dòng)作持續(xù)一段時(shí)間，只能說(shuō)He arrived a week ago。

When you arrive at a place, you come to it for the first time in order to stay, live, or work there.
When something such as letter or meal arrives, it is brought or delivered to you.
When something such as a new product or invention arrives, it becomes available.
When a particular moment or event arrives, it happens, especially after you have been waiting for it or expecting it.
When you arrive at something such as a decision, you decide something after thinking about it or discussing it.
