The prehensile tail of the silky anteater is used as an extra support, freeing its forelimbs, which are armed with a huge claw, to defend itself or rip open small branches in search of ants.
二趾食蟻獸全身披有濃厚如絲一般的黃色皮毛，故又有“絲毛食蟻獸”之稱(chēng)。圖片中的這衹二趾食蟻獸將尾巴磐卷在樹(shù)乾上，這麼做可獲得一個(gè)額外的支持點(diǎn)，進(jìn)而“解放”前肢。它的前肢生有巨爪，可用作防禦武器或者劈開(kāi)小樹(shù)枝搜尋螞蟻。
