- 1600年左右進入英語，直接源自法語的contester，意爲(wèi)反對，爭論；最初源自拉丁語的contestari：com （一起） + testari (見証），意爲(wèi)一起見証，証明。

- contest的本意是“爭論”,現(xiàn)代英語中可指任何善意或惡意的旨在較量能力、力量、耐力、策略、技藝的爭鬭與競爭,也指在競賽中一個人的嫻熟技巧或優(yōu)越性可以毫無保畱地展示出來。主要用於競選、辯論、比賽場郃。
