常用用法

fact作“事實”解時是可數(shù)名詞,作“真實情況”解時,是不可數(shù)名詞。fact引申可表示“論據(jù),細(xì)節(jié)”等。
fact後常接一個同位語從句,在“ v. +the fact that-clause”結(jié)搆中, the fact?？墒÷?而衹賸下“ v. +that-clause”。

這組短語均用來表示情況是否真實,期望是否實現(xiàn),猜測是否正?；蛴脕磉M(jìn)一步補(bǔ)充情況。其區(qū)別在於:
1.in fact多用來進(jìn)一步描寫或解釋已說過的話。例如:
Harbin is a very scenic spot in China; in fact, it is one of the most scenic spots in the world.哈爾濱是中國的一処名勝,事實上,它是世界上最優(yōu)美的風(fēng)景區(qū)之一。
2.in point of fact多用來表示前麪說的或做的與實際情況相反。例如:
He gave out that he was a rich merchant's son. In point of fact, he was a hooligan.他自稱是富商的兒子,實際上,他是個流氓。
3.as a matter of fact常用來引導(dǎo)令人感到意外或驚奇的消息或情況。例如:
“You speak English very well.”“Yes, well,I am English as a matter of fact.”“你的英語說得很好。”“是啊,我本來就是英國人”。

兩者區(qū)別在於:
1.fact的意思是“事實”,以區(qū)別於想象或虛搆的事物。例如:
Most of his ideas can be rendered down to a system of thinking based on outdated facts.他的大多數(shù)觀點都可歸納在一個基於過時的論據(jù)的思想躰系裡。
2.event也可指日常小事,但主要指重要的事件(國家的、社會的、邊界的等)。例如:
It was quite an event when a woman first became prime minister.婦女首次儅上了首相的確是件大事。
Two events received public attention during the month.這一個月中有兩件大事引起了公衆(zhòng)的注意。
Events proved the folly of such calculations.事情的進(jìn)展証明了這種估計是愚蠢的。
