常用用法

vacation的基本意思是“假期,休假”,主要用於大學(xué)停課放假長(zhǎng)達(dá)多周的假日或法院停止開庭,在美式英語中,凡是較長(zhǎng)時(shí)間的休假都可用這個(gè)詞。
在固定短語on vacation中, vacation前不用冠詞; 在get a vacation, spend a vacation, take a vacation等短語中, vacation須用不定冠詞a; 而在long vacation,Christmas vacation等短語前通常有定冠詞the。
一般很少在vacation前加the。They are on vacation. 他們正在度假中。
vacation前也有加the的時(shí)候，如the summer vacation和the Christmas vacation；
英式英語中，vacation一般表示法院和大學(xué)的假期，而美式英語中，vacation表示任何假期；

這五個(gè)詞都有“假日”的意思。其區(qū)別在於:holiday來源於宗教的節(jié)日、假日,是普通用詞,多用於英式英語中,指的是一個(gè)人在一年中不乾工作的那段時(shí)間,也可用來表示一兩天的短假期; day表示法定節(jié)日,多用於專有名詞中; festival指民俗或宗教節(jié)日,竝含有定期歡度的意味; leave指政府工作人員或軍人的假期; vacation用於大學(xué)停課放假長(zhǎng)達(dá)多周的假日或法院停止開庭時(shí)間,在美式英語中,凡是較長(zhǎng)時(shí)間的休假都可用這個(gè)詞。例如:
August and September are the months of the year during which most English people take their holidays.一年中8、9兩個(gè)月是大多數(shù)英國人休假的月份。
